Overview
The Karrimor SF Sabre 45 is a 45-litre rucksack designed for heavy-duty outdoor and military use. It aims to combine rugged durability with functional features so it can fill roles from bushcraft / survival trips to shorter patrols or expedition support. The pack has been used and tested in demanding conditions.
Key design highlights include a single large main compartment, a removable internal frame (F-format), compatibility with PLCE side pouches, and features to improve weather resistance .
Strengths
Durability & Build Quality The Sabre 45 is built with 1000-denier nylon, reinforced stitching, rot-proof thread, and reliable hardware (e.g. YKK zips). It’s made to take abuse.
Capacity & Expandability 45 L in the main bag is generous for many trips. Additional PLCE‐compatible side pouches allow expansion. Also, compression straps help manage bulk.
Comfort & Load Support The pack features an internal F-format frame, S-shaped shoulder harness, padded hip belt, sternum strap, and Coolmesh/cushioned back panels and lumbar area.
Weather Resistance & Outdoor Features DWR coating, tough outer fabric, shock cord system, crampon loops, ice-axe holders, etc., make it versatile in harsher environments.
Value for Rugged Use The Sabre 45 is often seen as offering very good value if you want a pack that will survive rough treatment over time.
Weaknesses
Weight It is relatively heavy for its capacity, especially once you add side pouches or load it fully. That extra ruggedness costs in terms of weight.
Back Length / Fit Issues for Taller Users Some users report that the back length is somewhat short, or that the hip-belt doesn’t wrap sufficiently or sit comfortably if you’re tall. This can reduce comfort with heavy loads.
Bulk with Accessories When side pockets are attached, the profile increases; the compression straps may struggle to cinch down fully; some straps flap around.
Minimal Internal Organisation The main compartment is largely one big space; there is less in the way of internal pockets or dividers. If you like organising gear tightly or accessing smaller items quickly, you may find this a bit inconvenient.
Ventilation & Padding Trade-Offs While there is some mesh and padding, a fully loaded pack over longer periods in warm weather can get hot. Also, the hip belt padding is substantial but may not always feel perfectly ergonomically shaped for all anatomies.
