OLIGHT I1R 2 Pro Keychain Torch

Overview

The Olight i1R 2 Pro EOS is a compact, rechargeable keychain LED flashlight designed for convenient everyday carry. It builds upon Olight’s earlier i1R / i1R EOS lines, offering two brightness levels (a low mode for close-up tasks, a high mode for more visibility), a twist head to select modes, USB-C built-in charging, and a small internal battery. The torch is meant to be lightweight and small enough to go on your key ring, yet still powerful enough to be useful in dark or emergency situations.

Strengths

  1. USB-C Rechargeable Switching to USB-C is a welcome improvement. It makes charging easier and more modern; you don’t have to carry old micro-USB cables or worry about obsolete connectors.

  2. Good Brightness vs Size The high mode puts out about 180 lumens, which is solid for a keychain sized light. Low mode (~ 5 lumens) is useful for very close-up tasks without blinding yourself or draining battery quickly.

  3. Tiny & Lightweight With a small form factor (~2 inches / 51 mm in length) and light weight (~22 grams), it’s barely noticeable on a keychain, yet robust enough for occasional rough use.

  4. Simple and Reliable UI (User Interface) Only two modes (low and high) with a twist head makes for simple, no-fuss operation. No cycling through many modes; good for when you need light quickly.

  5. Solid Build & IP Rating The body is well made, with good materials, anti-slip texture / milling in many versions, and it has a strong waterproof rating (IPX8), so it tolerates rain, splash, or temporary immersion.

  6. Improved Runtime Over Previous Models The low mode now gives significantly longer runtime, especially useful if you use it often in low power. Also, high mode lasts long enough for typical quick tasks.

Weaknesses

  1. Battery is Not Replaceable The battery is built in. Once it degrades (after many charge cycles), you can’t just pop in a new cell—eventually you’ll need a full replacement or new light.

  2. Limited High Mode Runtime High mode is bright, but its runtime is still short. It may also produce some heat if left on high for extended periods.

  3. Low CRI / Cool White Tint The colour temperature tends toward a cool white, which some users dislike (especially for indoor or close work). Colour rendering (CRI) is modest rather than excellent.

  4. Only Two Modes (No Medium or Special Modes) If you want more control (very low moonlight, strobe, SOS, etc.), this isn’t for you. It keeps things simple, but that simplicity means less flexibility for some tasks.

  5. Exposure to Dust / Dirt at USB Port Even though the USB-C port is “captured” in the head (it doesn’t fall off), you do need to unscrew/loosen the head to access the port. When exposed, it may pick up dirt / lint—or risk being accidentally turned on if slightly twisted in a pocket.
